Interfaith Sanctuary was once an overnight emergency shelter that served our homeless community beginning at 6 p.m. each night. Guests had to leave for the day the following morning at 7 a.m. Our hours of operation made it difficult for our families with small children to manage the safety and care of their children and of themselves.
Small children need naps, nutrition, structure and they deserve to be given access to early education opportunities. Parents need case management, mindfulness training and physical exercise.
To meet these needs Interfaith Sanctuary created our Family Daytime Program that runs Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This program provides a safe place for families to be during the day as well as preschool programming, parenting classes, case management support, nutritious snacks and scheduled nap times. Families with school-age children are able to participate in afterschool programming and receive nutritious snacks and case management.
The Family Daytime Program has been a game changer for our families during the week, but the weekends continue to be a struggle for them because of this break in our program offerings. Often, the trauma that we are able to relieve during the week returns over the weekends.
In response, Interfaith Sanctuary is extending this program to Saturdays and Sundays. By supporting this program with a monthly gift, you are ensuring we have the staff, nutritious meals and social programs available seven days a week.
