The Story of Mercy Kitchen

Mercy Kitchen began at St. Mark’s Church in Boise with one mighty volunteer, Frank Kalange, who brought his love for people and food together in the most beautiful way. Every Wednesday night for years, Frank and his Mercy Kitchen crew have shown up at Interfaith Sanctuary carrying trays of delicious, homemade food, feeding not just our guests but lifting everyone’s spirits with their kindness.

What started as a simple act of service has grown into something so special. We are thrilled to share that Mercy Kitchen is moving to Interfaith Sanctuary, becoming the heart of our new State Street Shelter Home. And the man who started it all, Frank Kalange, will now serve as our Mercy Kitchen Food Service Director.

This donation page has been created to help bring Frank’s passion to life by filling our shelves, pantries, and walk-in coolers with everything needed to prepare fresh, healthy meals three times a day for over 200 guests. That includes our families with children, our medically fragile guests, and our single men and women who call the shelter home.

We need pots, pans, dishes, bowls, flatware, drinking cups, coffee mugs, spatulas, wooden spoons, slotted spoons- you name it, we need it. Every item you help us purchase will be used daily to prepare and serve meals with care and dignity.

When you donate on this page, 100% of your gift will go directly toward getting Mercy Kitchen up and running. Soon this new commercial kitchen will be bustling with life, with volunteers welcome morning, noon, and night to help prepare and serve meals for our guests.
